Dr. Mark Holterman is a successful pediatric surgeon with over two decades of experience. He is a philanthropist who reaches out to children with health care needs. Dr. Holterman is involved in the activities of International Pediatric Specialists Alliance for the Children of Vietnam (IPSAC-VN). The program was initiated after Dr. Holterman and his wife Ai-Xuan Holterman visited a hospital in Vietnam. The two pediatricians were concerned about the shortage of children’s hospitals and doctors in the country.
Vietnam’s parents came from far to get treatment and thus, the hospital was crowded with both children and parents. The couple together with the hospital’s chief surgeon decided to create a non-profit organization which was to ensure children’s treatment is readily available.
IPSAC-VN seeks to improve the hospital conditions in Vietnam by having exchange programs between the medical professional in US and Vietnam. The program educates teachers, healthcare practitioners and surgeons, provides academic support services and medical equipment and also arranges for surgical outreaches in the remote areas of the nation.
