Oppressive regimes and outright dictatorships still exist in many nations all across the world. Left-wing or Right-wing, conservative or liberal, they encompass all aspects of the political spectrum. Their opponents come from backgrounds equally as diverse and display political or social leanings that are just as far ranging. What they have in common is a belief in the rights of the individual over the benefit of the state and a willingness to speak out against corruption and government abuses.
One such group of outspoken individuals is the Human Rights Foundation and it’s charismatic founder Thor Havlorssen. Havlorssen is a half-Norwegian, half-Venezuelan with a personal and family history that is dotted repeatedly with acts of both oppression and peaceful resistance. His father was made a political prisoner in Venezuela and his mother was shot during an a protest.
His career has seen the founding of organizations and forums dedicated to the promotion of freedom and the rights of the individual. He has also published two books and played a major part in the production of several movies on his subject of interest.
While Havlorssen’s face and name have garnered a lot of attention he is only a single part of a large organization. The Human Rights Foundation, or HRF, is self-described as a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that believes in pushing for freedom throughout the world. The HRF has been active for nearly 9 years, having begun in 2005. Its ideals are based on those laid out in the 1976 International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. They have been active in countries ranging from Chile to Russia and just about everywhere in between. Their work focuses on the promotion and education of individual rights, even in oppressive societies. They also work to arrange the release of political prisoners. Not only does the the Human Rights Foundation organizes and hosts events, it funds and produces films as well, using them as a method of encouraging a freedom oriented ideology. The work of the entire organization, Havlorssen included, has made an immense difference in the lives of those forced to live under a government that neither protects or respects their individual rights.
A recent article appears online about a local attorney launching a go fund me page for stray animals. On further review of the article, you will find out that Ross Abelow is starting the campaign for local animal shelters. He is a New York attorney that completed law school in New York. He later took a job working in family and corporate law. Ross is listed on the Lawyer lighthouse listing for attorneys in New York. After more research of the article, you will learn that Abelow is launching his campaign as a community volunteer project. He wants to help the hundreds of dogs and cats around the city that have no home.
To understand the life of a homeless dog you must first understand where the dog probably came from. One stray dog may have been part of a liter of ten. He or she may have been the one no one wanted or he may have run off from the pact. After finding himself on the streets of New York, the homeless dog will have to learn how to stay warm. No longer is his mom around to keep him warm by cuddling up with him. NO longer is the other pups around to roll up in a ball with him. He is all alone. The big city and the cold winds is his life now. The lonely pup finds a dirty back alley where it seems to be safe from cars. He searches the ground for any piece of food. He finds a left over piece of bread and calls this dinner. Now the pup needs to get warm so he crawls up behind some busted out trashy door. He rolls up in a ball and closes his eyes.
This is the life of the stray. Hopeless and sad, these animals either die of cold and starvation or they end up at a shelter. The lucky ones get a chance in a shelter but most shelters are too full to accommodate. Ross is hoping to help by raising money through a go fund me page for shelters. All proceeds will help the animal shelters provide more relief for these animals. Ross Abelow knows that it takes one person to start something. this is why he is starting the campaign. He hopes to raise the $5000. dollars necessary to put a dent in the homeless dog and cat problems in New York. Check out the go fund me page for Ross Abelow to see how you can help.

The name Human Rights Organization should speak for itself, but for those who do not know what they are and what they do pay attention. First and foremost, the Human Rights Organization was is a nonprofit nonpartisan organization. They have built a foundation of beliefs and morals based upon the International Covenant On Civil and Political rights in 1976. The organization was founded by Thor Halvorssen. They have a mission that states that every human should have the right to do a number of things such as freedom of speech, freedom of self- determination, the right to acquire property, freedom of association, the right to equal and due process under the law along with a few other things that you may feel you are entitled to anyway. The reason Thor Halvorseen and company feel they need to fight for rights we feel like we have is because there is discrimination and privilege all over the world and the United States. There is unequal rights in the legal system, civil rights have been compromised and the people sometimes feel like victims of the government. They also offer programs that teach people about freedom and the importance of a free society and teaches those who do not know that other peoples freedoms are taken away from them that that is the case and is happening all over the world. Thor Halvorsesen is a film producer and has been a long time advocate for the Human Right Organization. The 39 year old Venezuela born college graduate of the University of Pennsylvania has also founded the Moving Picture Institute.
Nothing defines our humanity more than the god-given rights given to us. Sadly, these rights tend to become alienated in secluded, non-westernized societies around the world. Thankfully, the Human Rights Foundation (HRF) is dedicated to ending the seclusion of human rights in these unjust societies.
HRF is a politically nonpartisan organization that is on a mission to promote and defend the rights of human beings. Founded on the ideology of liberal democracy, the Human Rights Foundation believes that all people, regardless of nationality, race, gender or other backgrounds, are entitled to many of the same concepts that America’s founding fathers set out to enact. Among these concepts are the freedoms of speech, association, self-determination, and freedom from enslavement or unnecessary incarceration. The protection of these basic rights is crucial to preserving the liberty and happiness of mankind. This philosophy is what fuels HRF to do their great works around the globe. Their works are seen in the form of protests, campaigning to free political prisoners, educating people on what constitutes a free society, and helping to teach the importance of freedom and human rights.
The Human Rights Foundation was first established in 2005, and it’s offices opened officially in 2006 in New York City. This non-profit organization, like a few others, was founded by a man named Thor Halvorssen Mendoza. Halvorssen is a self-made human rights activist who shows passion for equality and freedom for people all around the world.
Mr. Halvorssen has also displayed his works of activism through various filmmaking and documentary projects. He is known for his works with the documentary Sugar Babies, which sheds light on the rough, inhumane treatment of children working on sugar farms in the Dominican Republic. Thor Halvorssen is also well-known for his political documentaries about the uprisings and overthrowing of tyrannical leaders through history.
